Writers, Google Will Transcribe Your Voice…

By Michael Stelzner

Google just announced a new service called Google Voice (click here for Mashable’s story).  According to Mashable:

The service looks a lot like Gmail for voicemail, although you don’t have to be a Gmail user to use it. It lets you retrieve transcripts of your voicemail, archive and search all your sent and received SMS messages, and you can make calls directly from Google Voice’s interface. The calls are free in the US, and cost a small fee internationally.

So here’s the really cool part for us writers…

You can call Google Voice and leave yourself messages.  Google will automatically transcribe the messages into text and email them to you!

So, next time you’re in the car or you just don’t feel like typing, you can simply call Google Voice and you’ll get your words emailed back to you.  How cool is that!!

  • That looks like a really cool service. I'm going to give it a try for sure. Goran is right, Google has found a way into our daily lives through one service or another.

  • This really takes the dictaphone and secretary concept to the next level! Google is really going to great lengths to worm itself and its services into most all aspects of daily and professional life. Google Voice gets a big thumbs up from me!

  • That's an excellent find! Thanks.

  • This is by far the coolest service Google has offered thus far. It brings together the non-computer world with the computer world. This will make it easier for all writers as it will work int he car, the train and anywhere where you can;t sit down and write out an idea. I can't wait to test it out! Regards!

  • This sounds awesome. Oftentimes I'll get some ideas for blog posts or stories I want to write, and I'll have to jot the basic idea onto my cell phone. With google, I could just call and leave the message. When I get back home, I'd have the full thing written out and ready for review.

    Great post!
