How Writers Make Big $ During Economic Slumps

By Michael Stelzner

By now you’ve heard the buzz about White Paper Success Summit 2009. I’ve got some important information for you, but first let me share the story that led to this event (and why this means a great opportunity for you).

THE REASON I WORKED THROUGH CHRISTMAS…

A few months ago, I taught hundreds of freelance copywriters how to market their services at a big online summit. The response was shocking. So many folks wanted to know how they too could make thousands of dollars writing white papers. I didn’t hide the fact that I make $7500 per paper and usually run four projects each month. I know many freelance writers were surprised that even half that much could be made writing only 6 to 8 pages of content.

I had this big plan to offer a white paper event for freelancers in the spring. But the economy caused me to rethink things. Nobody could have imagined how many businesses would end up suffering from the recent economic fallout.

So I Ran Into a Little Problem

It became immediately apparent to me that waiting until the spring to offer a white paper event for freelance writers would be too late. Let me explain why.

You see, back in 2002, just after the last major stock market crash, white papers took off as super-powerful marketing tools for businesses. Why? Because businesses needed resources that would help them sell under the radar to customers who were frankly resistant to spending any money.

Smart businesses were achieving amazing success with white papers. So much so that literally overnight, thousands of white papers were being produced to generate leads and help businesses stand out.

Now the connection… Today we are at the front end of the very same pattern that occurred in 2002, but the need is even greater! AND this presents an enormous opportunity for you.

SO WHAT’S THIS ABOUT?

I have literally been working non-stop, all through the holiday madness, to put together the best panel ever on creating marketing white papers. It’s called White Paper Success Summit 2009 and its focus is to empower you to create white papers that help businesses achieve success. Not only can you make a ton of money creating marketing white papers, you’ll also become a big hero to your clients.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

Second, not just technology companies use white papers. Any business that sells to other businesses is a prime target. For example, FedEx, Dow Jones, Monster.com, LinkedIn and thousands of smaller businesses all use white papers as marketing materials.

White Paper Success Summit 2009 will help you discover the best methods for creating marketing white papers. You’ll also learn how to win high-caliber clients, market white papers and make more money as a freelance white paper copywriter.

It’s fully dedicated to empowering you. You’ll discover how to gain more business in this lucrative and no-hype commercial copywriting world.

  • Thanks Gina.

I'm not saying anyone can take the course and make that kinda money right away. But even half that much is a huge amount for the effort compared to most other writing projects. :)

    Let me answer for Michael....

How you make $7500 on a whitepaper after going through the course is getting out there, working hard at it, winning clients for yourself and establishing a track record.

The course gives you a place to study the skills. Then you add your hard work to the equation.
  • Hi Michael,

I agree with Alik how make $7500 on a whitepaper after going through the course?

    Can you explain it?
  • .. or even "and" ...

  • Hi Alik;

There really isn't any promise. The top writers make that kind of money and there's no promise you could make that just because you took the course. However, it's no unreasonable that you could charge a few thousand dollars for a single white paper.

What holds people back is not knowing how to create and sell the service.

  • Michael,
    Few questions if I may...

    - What’s his confidence on a scale of 1-10 that somebody can make $7500 on a whitepaper after going through the course?
    - What holds people back from making $500 or more per whitepaper?

    Thanks

  • Michael - I intend to sign up for this, but unfortunately will have to wait. I'm a rookie blogger (old dog, new tricks) and have learned a great deal about white papers from your site. I can see that this is an important and lucrative area and I plan to participate. I'm reading your fine book now. So far, my only experience with white papers is a brief assignment for a financial software company - copyediting many of their technical white papers and turning them into good English and making them suitable for decision-makers. I haven't written any white papers yet, but I'm trying to land that first assignment. Thanks for leading the way.
  • Very cool.

I like the fact you're doing demand generation for a powerful niche, as well as shining the spotlight on the existing demand and opportunity.

  • After re-reading your landing page for the upcoming Summit (I'd already registered), I wanted to share this feedback. The #1 most compelling paragraph in your entire landing page was:

"In fact, studies frequently show self-employed people who attend such professional development events are more successful, reach their business goals faster, enjoy their work more, build better relationships and earn a higher income!"

To paraphrase Michel Fortin's wisdom from your class "Writing Compelling Titles and Headlines," it's good to appeal to basic needs, and this page is very well written. Kudos.
  • White Papers are a powerful resource for many types of businesses. This is a very valuable service you provide.
