I recently got this message from Laurie Phillips, entitled “Cool Marketing Trick”

When I go to Panera to work on my white papers (I know, very cliche’ but it is a change of scenery), I place your book at the edge of my table where others can see it. Already, I’ve had a few people ask if I’m writing a white paper!  We end up chatting and I give them my business card.  Very cool.

So I asked her to send me a picture.

  • That's a great idea. Wont hurt at all. I go to a lot of local places to work on things from time to time and building a local base will be great.

  • Good reason to purchase the hard-bound book over the e-book? OTOH, maybe I can just print out the cover of the e-book and put it at the corner of my table? OK, I'll admit it, I'm cheap :)

  • What a great marketing strategy! I got a chuckle out of it because I think we're all starting to "think a little outside the box" these days. This just goes to prove that the strategy works.

  • Nice one! Putting yourself out there in a public place is definitely one way of garnering attenting and making some good contacts. Not for shy people though!
