Weekend Entertainment - Do People Read Anymore!

By Michael Stelzner

Is it just me, or are people so quick to find answers to problems that they don’t realize what they’re doing??

I just received a response to one of my posts that said:

I live in San Antonio tx. - we just experienced 14 ” of rain . I’ve been advised I need to fertizer when its drys - Its for my lawn st.A.- what should use and when.
thanks bob

Now this seems like a normal comment, HOWEVER, there is one HUGE problem…

The title of the post was, “Writing Look Like Dead Grass? Fertilizer for Your Fingers.”

People dont read anymore, their so focused on the new technologies of today, they barely have time to sit down and read a good book. we have machines now that are doing things for us, and eventually, will read for us. Technology today is getting worse in my opinion, no one cares about the real issues, book banning is the US now, and has banned already over 300 amazing novels. Back in the days people would read for enjoyment, and to obtain knowlage, now books continue to get dusty, while we focus on these new technologies, that in my opinion, continue to make us stupider.
  • well, so why people comment if they dont read the post? sometimes your title must be more specific to avoid this kind of comments!
  • Oh you want colored paper? Sorry, all we sell is "white paper". :)
  • You're right, nobody reads anymore, not even writers. :(

Anyway, can you quote me a price on 10 reams of 20lb stock?
  • Whitney - I get those kinda spam messages all the time. This was a real person. :) - Mike
  • On the animal rescue blog I maintain, we sometimes get comments like these...where you're left asking yourself "what post were you reading before you commented, because it sure wasn't mine."

When I've followed the links they've entered for their URLs, you find an attempt (usually a poor one) at an ecommerce site or an ad-ridden "info site"...which they're trying to spawn links to. They seem to play some kind of keyword game. For example, the comment is about dog toys, the original post was about toys to avoid for exotic pets, and thus the connection is made..."toys". One guy got so obnoxious I had no choice but to block comments from his IP address.
  • Maybe Bob and his counterparts need a refresher on "Read first, blog second"... (which may eliminate the "embarrass third" step!) heh heh

As a San Antonian, I said "ouch" when I read this! Most of the folks I run into here are quite literate which, as a writer, makes my life a lot easier. Thanks for the grins, appreciate it!
  • Along the same lines...If I had a dollar for every person who contacted me through my website inquiring about my price for paper, I'd be a rich man.

Please don't read thoroughly. They read enough to make an assumption, then go with their gut.

  • John - You are right, this is funny. I laugh every time I read it. - Mike
  • People some times don't read. but you have to take the good with the bad. you can't let people spoil some thing good just because some else does something stupid! it is kind of funny though.
  • Hey Jeff - Glad to hear I am not alone! - Mike
  • Mike - You simply cannot make up something that stupid.

    Thanks for the chuckle.
