By Michael Stelzner

Hey there. Are you a lurker who reads but rarely comments?

Are you a regular who stops by almost daily?

I’d like to encourage you to let me know what you would like to see going on here in the future.

What areas would you like me to cover?

I tend to write about the following topics:

  • Michel,

FYI - Every Friday on my blog, I post a detailed review of a recently published commercial white paper. Here's a link to last Friday's review of an Adobe white paper:

I work for a small company, meaning I wear many hats: account executive, designer, software developer, tech support, customer service and oh lets not forget marketing. I've received your email newsletter for over a year and have always ripped through it looking for quickly digestible bits then filed it while saying to myself "I'll come back to that and marketing in general when I have time."

Your "The Death of Feature and Function Marketing" really caught my attention (because it sounded a lot like my current material.) That is what got me to your blog for the first time.

We truly have a suprior product/service model and I will keep coming back looking for more effectivly ways of conveying that message.

Thanks for your insite. ~ Brad
  • Michael, great to see you asking your readers what they want.

I'd like to know more about how having a white paper could benefit the small business owner or freelance designer, like me.

    All the best,

    David
  • Gosh a math question so early in the morning and I think I got it right even though I had to go to my toes... good morning, Michael! Yes, keep the good stuff flowing. I'd also like to see some critiques and bad samples - that's how many of us learn. And of course, I'd love to read more on how you research a topic, for example, the failed interview with the expert lead you to... what?
  • Lora, Matthew and Michel;

Thanks so much for your opinions.

    Folks, keep them coming!

    Mike
  • Michael,

Matthew makes an excellent point with case studies. Perhaps your take on it, your takeaways as to why they worked, some tips along the way, etc. And let's not forget failed stories, too. I'd love to read a "post-mortem" of sorts or autopsy from you as to why they didn't work and how they could have made it better.

What would be really interesting to me is that you critique white papers. Whether you choose to do it on screencam video, or video a post that adds screenshots of various parts of a white paper, I want to hear your thoughts on what is good about it, what's wrong, what can be changed, what's can be added, suggestions on how to write it better, and maybe even some discussions with the white paper owner/author on the objectives, targeting, readership results, distribution, and research strategies that went into the white paper -- and how you think about it.

That would be worth a mint to me.

    My 3 cents.
  • I'd like to see your thoughts on generating case studies. Interview questions, getting customer involvement, etc.
  • Hi Michael!

I'm a fan! I'd like to learn more about the "mechanics" of writing white papers. The "hows" if you will. Perhaps even reviews and comparisons of different white papers.
