Brother, Can You Spare Some Time? The Problem of Time Prioritization
By Michael StelznerI was recently hanging out with some buddies. We were talking about the challenges we face at work, at home, etc.
One of my pals mentioned he was going back to school, learning the ropes of his new job and even working out more. He was loving it. He said there was just one problem, his family was suffering.
I thought for a moment and said, “What I am about to say applies as much to me as to you.” I paused.
“When we find time (at work, at home, …), we tend to fill it FIRST with what we most enjoy doing.”
I explained, if you have a spare hour at home, rather than playing with the kids, maybe you spend it on the computer. If you have newfound time at work, you might notice yourself wasting it playing games or socializing.
It comes down to prioritization.
I ask this question of you (AND ME): Why do we always seem to put off what we know we NEED to do and instead fill our time with things we know we should NOT be doing?
How are your doing on your priorities? What are you doing to keep yourself on track?
