I’d like to nominate Deb Ng’s blog “Freelance Writing Jobs” as the best writing blog. Deborah provides hundreds of links every week so writers can find decent paying opportunities. She also offers fun contests and a selfless act called “Pay it Forward Tuesday” where she plugs other writers blogs as long as they “pay it foward”.
That she does this all without compensation proves she’s the real deal.

I’d like to nominate Kristen King’s website for one of the best brain dumps on the Internet! Kristen is a professional with class. I’ve enjoyed her weblog for a long time because she does what a good writer should - she engages you and makes you feel part of her journey. Plus she offers excellent advice along the way.

Thanks for doing this, Michael! Anne Wayman’s Golden Pencil blog (www.thegoldenpencil.com) definitely deserves a spot on the list.
Can’t wait to see the results!
Cheers,
Kristen King

Whoops, clicked before I was done! Anne’s Golden Pencil blog is a great resource for all things freelance. She links to fantastic articles (as well as writing them herself), provides job opportunities, and addresses both the personal and professional aspects of writing. She’s a gem!

I’d like to recommend Freelance Writing Jobs as one of your top ten. I (and many others) found several jobs thanks to Deborah Ng’s diligence. I would love to “pay it forward” by voting for her here. The Freelance Writing Jobs blog is an invaluable reference for any freelance writer.

I nominate “inkthinker” by Kristen King. It’s got great content and is a pleasure to read!
November 13th, 2006 at 1:53 pm
Deb and Kristen are getting their deserved props…
And self-nomination seems so uncouth…
So, I am going to nominate a new favorite… Tom Chandler’s Copywriter Underground is rapidly becoming a favorite. I discovered it recently and now it’s one of the first feeds I read every morning.

I’m back again. Just wanted to second all of the current nominations, and add Carson’s Content Done Better blog (http://content-writer.blogspot.com) to the list. He’s a real pro with a fresh perspective and wonderful insight (not to mention great taste in red-headed bloggers, ahem, ahem), and a must-read for anyone in the biz.

I have two writing blogs I visit daily. Deb Ng’s Freelance Content Writing and Carson Brackney’s Content Done Better Blog. I believe you now have the links to both by now.
Maybe in a few years mine will be built up enough to be worthy of such an honor, but for now, these two sites are the most invaluable sites I visit for writing leads and information.

I agree! Carson Brackney’s Content Done Better and Kristen King’s Ink Thinker certainly deserve a place on the list. I’d especially like to vote for Anne Weyman’s Golden Pencil blog, however. Anne offers useful advice from a seasoned writer and provides valuable links to job leads.

Deborah Ng’s blog “Freelance Writing Jobs” at http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html is my choice for the best writing blog. Each week, Deb provides hundreds of links in order for writers to find decent paying writing jobs. Deborah does this without receiving any compensation.
November 13th, 2006 at 2:47 pm
I also nominate/vote for Deb Ng’s blog “Freelance Writing Jobs” for the best writing blog. I believe that there are many starving writers who would be even more hungry without her daily work.
November 13th, 2006 at 2:52 pm
Carson’s Content Done Better Blog - http://content-writer.blogspot.com/ - is where I learn everything I know and am learning about the freelance internet writing business. Carson’s down to earn and knowledgeable and has taught me a ton about internet business, generally, nevertheless internet content writing. And his blog is spiced with all kinds of substantial reads like his Buck O’Neil and Ed Bradley obituaries, his dedications to World Press Freedom Day, and his promotion for a quick couple $100 for a donation to a good cause. Carson gives internet writing a good name and it’s taught me a lot along the way.

I’ve learned so much there.
November 13th, 2006 at 3:18 pm
Deb Ng all the way: http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html
I admire the hell out of her efforts … and I’m so thankful for them!
November 13th, 2006 at 4:24 pm
I would like to see the Content Done Better Blog listed in the top ten. Carson is an inspiration to many up and coming writers.
http://content-writer.blogspot.com
As well as Deb’s Freelance Writing Jobs Deb is great because she puts in a lot of time posting to help others find lucrative work.
http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html
November 13th, 2006 at 4:36 pm
Thanks for the props Carson! Since Content Done Better has already been nominated, I’ll throw down for our esteemed host, the white papers guy.
Hell, I don’t even write white papers and I’m spending time here. Fun and conversational.

I visit two writing blogs daily, those are below. Good luck ya’ll

Thanks!
November 13th, 2006 at 5:35 pm
If I have to pick I also have to go with Deb. Not only is it informative and useful, she keeps it fun. Not sure if you need it again but in case it’s part of the rules…

November 13th, 2006 at 7:28 pm
Deborah Ng’s tireless and unflagging service to the freelance writing community earns her my vote!
http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html

I check the Renegade Writer blog every day because it is down-to-earth and full of useful information for new and established freelancers alike.

As a new freelance writer, I have found Allison Winn Scotch’s blog Ask Allison invaluable. Her posts are full of helpful information for all writers.

November 14th, 2006 at 4:42 am
Count me in as another fan of Deb Ng:
http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html
As a published (but struggling) part-time writer, her blog is an invaluable resource. It saves me the hassle of searching dozens of websites trying to extract a single pearl from thousands of oysters.
November 14th, 2006 at 5:32 am
Hands down, Deb Ng’s “Freelance Writing Jobs” blog is the BEST resource for all freelance writers. http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html On a daily basis, Deb posts viable job opportunities for freelancers–a selfless and generous act in today’s selfish world.
It was serendipity when I clicked through links from a Food Blog and landed on Deb’s blog. Kudos to Deb for her generous spirit.
November 14th, 2006 at 5:33 am
I visit the sites already mentioned: The Renegade Writer (http://therenegadewriter.com), Ask Allison (http://allisonwinnscotch.blogspot.com), & Inkthinker (http://www.inkthinker.blogspot.com), and Deb Ng (http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html)!
I sure wish my own blog was on this list (hint, hint … anyone)? (www.lynch.st/karen/blog)? I’d be in such good company …
November 14th, 2006 at 6:45 am
I’m a fan of the endlessly useful query, research, and publication advice at The Renegade Writer blog:
http://therenegadewriter.com
November 14th, 2006 at 7:08 am
I nominate Deborah Ng’s Freelance Writing Jobs: http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html
Her friendly, brisk service has given me some great leads for both writing and translation.
Being based in Europe much of my time, her daily blog comes online about our teatime, towards the end of the normal working day, when one’s faith in some people might be getting a bit worn.
Her chatty. committed and totally voluntary gesture towards fellow freelancers restores one’s faith in the decent side of people.

November 14th, 2006 at 7:21 am
Just another fan of Deborah Ng’s Freelance Writing Jobs. By providing consistent, solid leads, Deb shows that she is a great friend and support for all writers.
http://www.writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html
November 14th, 2006 at 7:29 am
Deborah Ng’s Freelance Writing Jobs blog has put cold hard cash in my pocket. So you don’t get much more important than that. Her Freelance Writing Jobs blog saves me at least two hours each day and also provides me with job leads that I wouldn’t find on my own. It’s invaluable!
November 14th, 2006 at 7:31 am
My vote goes to DebNg at
http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html
She takes time everyday to find many leads for freelancing jobs.
November 14th, 2006 at 8:12 am
I would like to nominate Deb Ng’s Freelance Writing Jobs blog because it has brought me many lucrative leads and paying jobs.
November 14th, 2006 at 9:03 am
I want to nominate Allison Winn Scotch’s blog, Ask Allison. She answers questions from newbie freelancers, gives loads of advice and shares advice from other freelancers and editors.
http://allisonwinnscotch.blogspot.com/index.html
November 14th, 2006 at 9:04 am
I would like to nominate Deborah Ng’s Freelance Writing Jobs for encouraging fellow writers and for taking the time to share job leads with others.
November 14th, 2006 at 9:23 am
Many good sites here. I’d add a vote for one that has not (yet)
been mentioned often:
http://allisonwinnscotch.blogspot.com
Alison gives down to earth, useful advice. Even though I write in a completely different filed than she does, I find her insights and inforamtion useful and helpful.
November 14th, 2006 at 12:41 pm
http://www.inkthinker.blogspot.com/
November 14th, 2006 at 2:15 pm
I nominate Deborah Ng’s Freelance Writing Jobs for best blog. Her links to jobs are a fantastic resource for freelancers—I’ve found work several times through her hard work. I also love that she promotes other writers and their sites. By following her advice, I’ve received much useful information from her and from others she’s recommended. Although there are several great blogs out there, Deborah’s is the most valuable of the bunch.
November 14th, 2006 at 4:56 pm
I nominate inkthinker, because Kristen writes like I think!
Yes; that is a scary thought, but it’s also comforting, at least to me
Visiting her blog is like curling up inside a warm, cozy partition in my brain and reading my own thoughts.
Besides, she has two pugs: I have two pugs. She’s a former ezine editor. I’m a former ezine editor. And she prefers karma lemonade over Kool-Aid too.
November 14th, 2006 at 5:11 pm
I’d like to nominate the Renegade Writers Blog as well (http://therenegadewriter.com) as a source of down-to-earth, useful advice (and they take questions).
The Written Road (www.thewrittenroad.com) is the place to go for new travel writing markets and industry news. Not every post is a winner, but most are.
November 14th, 2006 at 9:01 pm
YEAH - Renegade Writer’s Blog is just the best - it really can’t be beat for encouragment and practical tips and real-life interviews. Love those women!
November 14th, 2006 at 11:26 pm
Deb Ng’s Freelance Writing Jobs is my nomiation. Deb is the best - she links to so many job leads every day, which has shown me just how possible it is to be successful as a freelance writer. It’s given me hope even when I feel there is none in the writing world.
November 15th, 2006 at 7:49 am
Kristen King (Inkthinker) gets my wholehearted vote. Her experience and practical advice are invaluable to this newcomer. She’s one smart cookie!
November 15th, 2006 at 8:26 am
Just another fan of Deborah Ng’s Freelance Writing Jobs:
http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html
By providing solid, consistent leads, Deb shows that she is a friend to all writers.
November 15th, 2006 at 9:07 am
I nominate Deborah Ng’s freelance writing jobs website. She is timely with great leads to help us writers get jobs! Thanks a ton, Deborah!
November 15th, 2006 at 9:08 am
I nominate Kristen King’s blog (Inkthinker) as the best for writers. She provides encouragement, support and advice to her readers. I always look forward to hearing what she has to say!
November 15th, 2006 at 10:04 am
I’d like to recommend Erika Dreifus’s “Practicing Writing” as the best writing blog.
http://practicing-writing.blogspot.com/
Here fiction writers, non-fiction writers, and poets can find updates on writing and publishing opportunities as well as Erika’s occasional observations on literary happenings. The blog can be seen also as complementing her other site, The Practicing Writer http://www.practicing-writer.com/ as well as her free monthly newsletter http://www.practicing-writer.com/content.php4?page=newsletter.
For me, the best part of the “Practicing Writing” blog (http://practicing-writing.blogspot.com/) is that Erika writes of her own life as a writer in such a fresh, insightful, and inviting way.

I nominate Deborah Ng’s blog
http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html
November 15th, 2006 at 10:43 am
I’d have to nominate Deborah’s Freelance Writing jobs. The whole idea of “pay it forward tuesday” is a sense of comraderie that is sorely misssing from the working world these days.
November 15th, 2006 at 10:47 am
I nominate Allison Winn Scotch’s “Ask Allison” blog. It’s full of helpful advice for beginning writers.
November 15th, 2006 at 11:56 am
I agree completely with Allegra Wong’s nomination of Erika Dreifus’s helpful and interesting blog http://practicing-writing.blogspot.com/.
November 15th, 2006 at 1:22 pm
Deb’s Freelance Writing Jobs is the most useful site I’ve found!
http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html
I read Carson’s blog regular as well, and I really like it. http://content-writer.blogspot.com
November 15th, 2006 at 1:35 pm
I’m another supporter of Deb Ng’s Freelance Writing blog at http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html. She deserves a hefty monetary award, for sure.
November 15th, 2006 at 2:59 pm
I’d like to nominate Deborah Ng’s Freelance Writing Jobs. She helps out fellow writers by taking time out of her day to post leads on her site. I admire her giving spirit and her wisdom as well. She is truly the best.
http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html
November 15th, 2006 at 3:19 pm
I’ve grown quite fond of Copyblogger at http://www.copyblogger.com/. While Brian Clark focuses on blogging, there’s so much in his articles that can be adapted and applied to other written materials — whether print or electronic. I like his writing style and how effectively he balances the need for brevity with the need for completeness (read: he packs a lot into a little space).
Lots of copywriting tips, lots of tips of writing better headlines and openers, lots of tips on improving online writing style in general. I’ve adapted…and so have many of my students…some of his tips for bloggers for use in newsletter writing, PR writing, other kinds of Web writing, even FAQ writing for customer support.
No Top 10 list would be complete without this blog.
November 15th, 2006 at 3:29 pm
I vote for Carson Brackney’s Content Done Better Blog at (http://content-writer.blogspot.com). He manages to be informative and keeps it interesting.
Deb Ng’s Freelance Writing blog at http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html should also definitely be on there. She works hard and provides a lot of leads.
If I had to chose between the two, I’d chose Carson’s though.
Anyway, those are my thoughts.
November 15th, 2006 at 5:20 pm
I nominate Deborah Ng’s blog “Freelance Writing Jobs” at http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html as being the best writing blog. What a wonderful idea to help writers. Deborah provides many links so writers can find decent paying writing jobs. Deborah needs to be thanked for her effort, especially because she does this for free and we all know that many new writers don’t have a lot of money.
November 15th, 2006 at 5:31 pm
This is a daily habit of mine. Great blog for a talented though unpublished author.
November 15th, 2006 at 6:26 pm
I’ve been watching the nominations with great interest and got to thinking about my favorite writing blogs and decided to create my own list of ‘5 best blogs for new writers’ ( http://writetotravel.blogspot.com/2006/11/best-blogs-for-new-writers.html ), blogs that are helping me with learning the business of writing.
PS I voted already for Ask Allison (allisonwinnscotch.blogspot.com)
November 15th, 2006 at 7:20 pm
I vote for http://westofmars.blogspot.com/ it is a great spot to see the life through a writer’s eyes.
November 15th, 2006 at 8:30 pm
I have to go with Deborah Ng’s blog as well. She is a gracious blogger hostess and her content is awesome.
November 15th, 2006 at 9:20 pm
http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html Deb Ng’s blog is awesome and incredibly helpful.
For amusement factor, I have to nominate: http://craigslistcurmudgeon.blogspot.com/ - somedays it keeps me from wanting to scream when I’ve been looking at ads.
November 16th, 2006 at 3:56 am
What’s with the maths question?
The above blogs all seem to be for freelance writers but I’m more interested in blogs on full length books and publication so I nominate Miss Snark for her witty comments and inside look at the publishing industry. Her crapometer gives great info on how to put together a query and she provides great free info.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:46 am
Hi Talia;
THE MATH QUESTION: It is a test to see if there is blood flowing through your veins OR if you are an automated bot that wants to spam my blog. Seems you are alive.
NOTE TO ALL: Please provide the URL of the blog you are nominating AND only list one. If you vote for more than one, you vote will not count.

Deb Ng’s blog “Freelance Writing Jobs”
November 16th, 2006 at 8:37 am
Deb Ng’s Freelance Writing Blog. I found an employer who offers me ongoing assignments through her site (my bread and butter) but I still make sure to check out the other listings. The site saves me a lot of time in research.
http://writersrow.com/deborahng/freelancewritingjobs.html
November 17th, 2006 at 1:01 am
Lynn Viehl (at Paperback Writer): http://pbackwriter.blogspot.com/
She has consistently good advice, interesting news and observations, and she gives away tons of good books and other bits and pieces that any writer can put to good use.
Also, nothing against Ng, but this ballot box is feeling a little… stuffy.
November 17th, 2006 at 5:37 am
Won’t. Click. Links. Or. Else. Get. Nothing. Done.
Since I recognize a few of excellent these blogs — I figure the rest of ‘em are just as good. It’s amazing how easily reading blogs can kill a person’s day.
November 17th, 2006 at 6:26 am
Oh my, so many new blogs to explore…when will I ever sleep?
November 17th, 2006 at 8:06 am
Rosina - If by “stuffy” you mean “stuffed,” or totally packed with great nominations, I agree. If you mean “rigged,” I wouldn’t worry about that. Deb Ng’s blog is a fantastic resource for writers, and I’m sure she gets hundreds, if not thousands, of hits a day. It’s going to get a lot more crowded in here with votes for her before all is said and done because, let’s face it, she’s definitely among the best (and nicest, too). I hope that’s reassuring. :] –kk
November 17th, 2006 at 12:08 pm
Susan Gottfried at http://westofmars.blogspot.com/
Susan not only shares her personal journey writing and marketing Tevor’s Song she also includes great information on other literary events including other authors, other sites, other interesting information. I check it out at least daily!
November 17th, 2006 at 3:13 pm
I also nominate Susan at http://westofmars.blogspot.com/.
November 18th, 2006 at 12:48 pm
http://pbackwriter.blogspot.com/
Lynn Viehl (or any one of her pseudonyms) produces a consistently solid blog geared toward educating writers on the business and helping writers improve their craft. She gives selflessly of her time and advice as well as supports new writers with carefully considered recommendations.
There are many good ones out there, but this one is consistently the best.
November 20th, 2006 at 2:48 pm
I recommend the Content Done Better Blog. Plenty of good information and updated regularly. I constantly look to it as a source of fun and interesting material and insight.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:55 am
I have to go with the consensus. Carson’s Content Done Better Blog and Deb Ng’s Freelance Writing Blog take my vote. I can’t choose one over the other as both provide different and valuable services to writers of Internet content and other writing mediums. Good luck to both of you!
November 21st, 2006 at 9:39 pm
I’d like to nominate my own blog, Copywriter Confidential, http://CopywriterConfidential.AyanaGlaze.com. It’s still new but provides useful insights on lessons I’ve learned along the way.
November 23rd, 2006 at 12:26 am
I’d like to put in my vote for the Content Done Better Blog. I love being able to check it every day and knowing there will always be something new - and either useful or funny - posted there.
November 26th, 2006 at 7:27 pm
I was wondering at first if this was nominations for freelance writers (articles, research, essays, copywriters, etc) but now I’m seeing some other nominations
Susan at west of mars is definitely on my list of blogs to visit!
November 27th, 2006 at 8:22 am
I’d like to nominate Luisa Carrada’s blog “Mestiere di Scrivere” as the best writing blog in italian language (http://mestierediscrivere.splinder.com/). I don’t know if you accept foreign language in your list but IMHO it is the best blog on writing. Luisa make this free and I’m very grateful to her.

I’m inspired by Kristen King’s inkthinker: http://www.inkthinker.blogspot.com/
It’s one of my first stops everyday.
December 1st, 2006 at 6:45 am
Kristen King www.inkthinker.blogspot.com
Narrative Nonfiction http://www.a2znarrativenonfiction.blogspot.com/
are my two nominations.
