Blogtipping - October Pics

By Michael Stelzner

BlogTippingEaston Ellsworth of BusinessBlogWire has started a monthly tradition called BlogTipping. It is honoring fellow bloggers with three complements and one tip. So here we go:

CopyBlogger: Top blogger Brian Clark has a simply excellent site on writing persuasive content. Things I like about this blog:

  1. Any writer will benefit from reading what he has to say.
  2. He is very good at engaging discussion.
  3. He has almost a cult following (copy him!)

Tip: Really none, this is the best blog I have seen.

WebInkNow: This is David Meerman Scott’s website on marketing. Things I like about his blog:

  1. His posts are thought-provoking.
  2. He covers a broad range of marketing topics.
  3. He’s written on the importance of quality content.

Tip: It would be nice if you made some your images a bit bigger.

Selling to Big Companies: This is Jill Konrath’s baby and it is a great blog on selling (to the big fish). Things I like about this blog:

  1. Jill shares great insight.
  2. Her writing is personal.
  3. She covers sales and marketing.

Tip: Try to integrate more graphics into your post.

That’s all for this month. What do you have to say?

  • Great goin', Michael. I'll link to this post in my monthly blogtipping digest post coming soon.
  • Yo BC ! You must have a lot of pull with that designer dude...that was fast !

And to think it all started here in Mike's comments...must be a powerful place.
  • Hey Brian - My bad. You are right. That is the subscribe-to-comments I use.

    David, thanks for stopping by!

    Mike
  • Thanks for the mention! And thanks for the tip. I'm afraid that I'm a victim of TypePad's default for posting images. I'll have to figure out how to over-ride that for my images from now on.

    Cheers, David
  • That one is for subscribing by RSS.

    Here's the email plugin:

Sigers, go look. You happy? :)
  • Brian;

If you want to open that comment floodgate any further than it already is, here is the WordPress plugin to autonotify comments:

  • Thanks Michael!

Mike, if I had a designer that was worth a damn, I'd have that feature and a whole lot of other things he owes me.

You know these kids though... :)
  • Nah ! Ol' BC loves all us Copyblogger kool-aid drinkers and the way we build up his blogger-ego !

    Just kiddin, BC, just kidding.

Sometimes I forget where I was part of a conversation and the ability to subscibe keeps me alert to more great info.

After all, a lot of the time, better info comes from the comments than in the original post.

And sometimes a comment on a month old post is exactly the info we need to solve our problems. Without that plugin, we're left hanging.
  • Hey Mike!

I agree about that subscribe to comments option. I recently added that to my blog and it most certainly does engaged a discussion. Maybe Brian does not need it considering all the comments he gets. Let's hope he does not turn out like Godin and shut the comments down.

    Mike
  • I drink the Copyblogger koolaid, too, so this was a great choice.

He does need one thing on his blog, though. A subscribe to comments plugin ( hint, hint ).

DMScott and the way he did his free downloadable eproducts has been another inspiration. Those two ebooks were as well constructed as any I've ever seen.

Sorry to say Jill and almost all of the DTMarketing blogs suffer from the same disease - the conversation's a bit chilly and they do not respond to comments, nor do they try to keep a conversation going. They're more used to writing magazine style and haven't really picked up the nuances of blogging. I've unsubscribed from the whole channel of their blogs.
