Recording Interviews in Microsoft Word
September 7th, 2006, by Michael StelznerBetty from Durham North Carolina wrote and asked about recording interviews in Microsoft Word. Whether you are recording an interview for a white paper project or just want to record some audio while you are taking notes, Microsoft Word has an excellent feature called Notebook.

This sexy little feature allows you to record within Microsoft Word as you are taking notes. Every line of text is time stamped to the audio, so you can go back and review your notes to make sure you have everything correct. Additionally, everything is stored conveniently in one single file.
If you have used this feature, let me know how it has worked for you.

Where can I find this cool feature? Do you need the most recent version of Word?
When I typed “notebook” into the Word help box, it didn’t recognize the term.

I believe it can only be found in Word 2004 for Mac users.
I couldn’t find anything in online help or the Web knowledgebase for Microsoft Office for PCs. But when I went up to search.microsoft.com, I received a search result for “Notebook layout view” at the following URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/word2004/using.aspx?pid=usingword2004&type=howto&article=/mac/LIBRARY/how_to_articles/office2004/wd_notebook.xml
It leads to a Microsoft-run support site called Mactopia.
Further proof that Mac users get all the good stuff.
You might check out Microsoft’s OneNote application (retails for about $90, depending upon where you find it). There’s a *chance* that it includes some of the some functionality. The OneNote home page is:

Hey Whitney;
I guess Word for the PC has not been updated since 2003. I see that a Word 2007 is coming soon, perhaps it will have this cool feature.
